 D.R.I.V.E. In Deerfield the letters stand for “Dedication, Resiliency, Integrity, Values, and Effort,” the team quote of the Deerfield Demon Girls Volleyball team. The team this year is off to a great start. Rory Meyer, as head coach, and assistant coaches Carrie Ammerman and Andrew McKinney are really stepping it up this year. The girls are undefeated so far, and they hope to continue to do so.
The outside hitters this year include Tiagan Dahl, Dana Taylor, Jessica Bringe, Jenna Kelter, Aase Quamme, Tara Gosdeck, and Calli Dahl. The middles are Amanda Allen, who is second in kills), Stephanie Jahn, Monica Salvo and Taylor Borgrud. The setter is Gretchen Aplin, who is second for assists this season. Libero Devlin Smith is leading the team with the most digs. Also playing libero is Britney Albrecht.
The lady Demons took first last weekend at the Edgerton Tournament, beating out some big schools like Edgerton. Though Deerfield may be a small town, there is nothing small about the team’s talent. The girls discuss how lucky they are to have such a bonded team; they are all friends, and they work together great.
The girls have won all eight of their matches, including a non-conference match in Cambridge. They took second in the silver bracket at Whitewater and took first in a quad at Belleville.
Coming up, they play at the Oshkosh North Invitational, on the 29th at 9 a.m. The ladies can use all the support they can get this year to help them achieve their goal of staying undefeated.
