 This year’s 2007 Highland volleyball season has gotten off to a good start, with six returning letter winners from last year’s squad. The team is looking to improve on last year’s record. Having played nine conference matches so far this year, the Cardinals’ record stands at 5 and 4.
This year’s team includes five seniors, although only four are able to play at this time. Senior Lydia Hebgen, who would normally be starting at middle, was brought down with an ankle injury early in the season, and it is unlikely she will be returning before the season ends. In her absence, the team has managed to carry on quite well with the remaining four seniors, six juniors, and one freshman.
As of this writing, the Cardinals are preparing for the Belmont Braves, one of the top three teams in the conference. With the season just over the halfway point, the Cardinals currently find themselves in a race for 2nd in the conference. Said Coach Drury recently, “The Cardinals have a chance of doing good things in the post-season if everyone keeps working hard in the coming weeks.”
