 The Warrior varsity football team stormed the Poynette Indians last Friday. The game was hyped up to be one of the best matchups in the state. Poynette was even predicted to win by a large amount. Lakeside proved them all wrong though winning by an impressive score of 35-7.
The duo of Nick Cooper and Rob Petry relentless ran for over Poynette defenders and contributed to the 350 total yards the offense produced by the Warriors. Junior quarterback Nate Bauer also had an outstanding performance. Bauer completed 7 out of his 8 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns. Jared Matthies, Tyler Guenterberg, and Justin Eternick all scored on passes from Bauer. With the added threat of Lakeside’s aerial assault the Warriors offense is proving to be unstoppable, averaging 40 points per game.
The Warrior defense also performed great against Poynette. They held the Poynette offense to only 134 yards and seven first downs. The one touchdown scored by Poynette was from a kickoff returned for a touchdown.
The Warrior football team is now preparing for the homecoming game against the Lodi Blue Devils. Lodi, a perennial powerhouse, is 5-2 but undefeated in conference play. This game will also decide who will win the Capitol Conference championship outright. A win against Lodi will also mean Lakeside will have a home playoff game and will have preserved its home winning streak which currently stands at 13 games.
