 Last Friday’s Wisconsin Lutheran High School Invitational cross country meet at McCarty Park, West Allis gave Lakeside one last chance to finalize its varsity line-up for tomorrow’s 2nd Capitol Conference meet. Although the Warriors put up a fight, the hot and humid weather took its toll on everyone. “This course seems to have run 20-30 seconds slower this year,” Coach Walta remarked. Nevertheless, the top 5 varsity for Lakeside’s teams held their times together. Katie Schommer (9th, 15:35), Ellen Schwartz (22nd, 16:01), Sarah Leverence (23rd, 16:12), Kirsten Sukow (26th, 16:15) and Kristi Egnarski (45th, 16:45) led the girls to a 6th place finish out of the 14 represented teams. For the boys, Caleb Sandvold (31st, 18:01), Caleb Schmiege (34th, 18:04), Sid Victoria (55th, 18:32), Aaron Paschke (71st, 18:56) and Paul Roever (74th, 19:00) attained 9th out of the 15 competing schools. Alyssa Schumacher, Gabbie Shiels, Paul Lenser, and Quinten Petersen also had the opportunity to participate in the WISCO meet, running as JV members vying for varsity positions. Schumacher, finishing 1st with a time of 16:29, will now join the varsity teams as they take on the highly-anticipated competition tomorrow at Belleville Albany.
