 Last Saturday was the culmination of 9 weeks of intense conditioning for the Lakeside cross country teams. Participating in the 2nd Capitol Conference Meet at Belleville High School, the Warriors faced this challenge with determination. Lakeside’s varsity girls claimed 1st in the North Division with a 20-point team score. Each earning a place on the 1st Team All Conference, Katie Schommer (2nd, 16:03), Sarah Leverence (3rd, 16:11), Alyssa Schumacher (4th, 16:21), Ellen Schwartz (5th, 16:23) and Erin Leverence (6th, 16:26) closed the gaps among themselves. The boys’ varsity went head to head with Lodi for the conference title but fell 13 points short. Nevertheless, Caleb Schmiege (3rd, 17:54) and Caleb Sandvold (7th, 18:26) made 1st Team All Conference, and Sid Victoria (9th, 18:36) and Paul Roever (11th, 18:47) took 2nd Team All Conference. Completing the boys’ score was Aaron Paschke, finishing 21st with a time of 19:41. Although most JV runners celebrated their last meet of the year this past Saturday, four individuals are privileged to remain with the varsity teams for the remainder of their seasons. Gabbie Shiels, Libby Haasch, Zach Bodus, and Paul Lenser will serve as alternates for the sectional meet tomorrow at Cam-Rock Park #2. Girls will race at 9:45 and boys at 10:30.
