 The Warrior football remains unbeaten after winning against Lodi last Friday for a Capitol Conference championship. Zach Moyle intercepted a pass to win the game in overtime 20-19. The homecoming game proved to be one of the best games of the season. The two teams kept all the fans on the edge of their seats the entire game.
The Warrior offense, averaging 40 points per game, was stopped throughout the game by a very tough and physical Lodi defense. Nick Cooper, the Warriors leading rusher was injured in the first quarter and didn’t return until the end of the game. Cooper ran for 56 yards and scored a touchdown in overtime. Senior Rob Petry received the majority of the carries after Cooper left the game. Petry recorded 155 yards 30 carries and scored their first Lakeside touchdown.
The Warriors also had success throwing the ball. Nate Bauer completed 4 out of his 9 passes for 35 yards. Jared Matthies led both teams with 38 yards receiving on 3 catches.
The Lakeside defense also had a great game. The defense only allowed 19 total points, 13 in regulation. Despite allowing junior Keith McBride to run for 228 yards in 28 carries he only scored one touchdown. The Lakeside secondary controlled the game. Sam Snyder, Kyle Zastrow, and Zach Moyle put the Lodi aerial attack to a standstill and eventually made the game winning play.
Lakeside played the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards last night here at Lakeside. With a guaranteed home playoff game, Lakeside will have their first home playoff game Tuesday night at 7p.m.
