For Madison East, the spring season of Ultimate looks grim for the near future. Due to many graduating members, the team has been dramatically cut down in size, causing concern for the next upcoming year. Scrambling for members, the team managed to recruit many new recruits. Now only one thing stands in their way: experience. With a brand new roster, the new and old members have to co-exist in order to come out strong in the coming season, a tough order for Disc-O Inferno.
However, all hope is not yet lost. With a meeting on Wednesday, February 6, the coach Jeremy Buehl plans to begin training early, having indoor practices to begin the process of training the squad into a well oiled machine, hopefully boosting their team work and overall skills at the same time.
The spring tournament has many participating schools. With everyone from Sun Prairie to Lafollette, everyone wants to go to the state tournament this year and de-throne the champions, Memorial. With fresh blood entering the team, Disc-O Inferno is gunning for the top spot, having fallen short last year by only taking 3rd place.
The state tournament and the spring league are not the only events that Ultimate has to offer. Keeping with tradition, Memorial is again hosting the Madison Mudbath, an event where teams from around the area (and sometimes from around the state) come to participate in two days in a row of playing Ultimate in a single-elimination style tournaments.
With many leagues and tournaments just on the horizon, Disc-O Inferno’s new members have to pick up the slack quickly and begin training before the new season, with hopes to take the gold. And with many summer events far off in the distance, the team prepares for the next chapter in the series of the team.
