Next year, the East Girl’s
Swimming team will have nothing more to prove. After years of making state and,
finally, a victory at state last season, the girls have created a enduring
legacy that will last long into the future. For this reason, the swimming team
is confident in their team and optimistic about winning state again next year.
Although
the swim team will lose three state swimmers (including an alternate), the
remaining talent on the team is young and ready to step up to the diving block.
Senior-to-be Ruby Martin and her sister Ivy (who will be a sophomore) will
return to the team as state competitors and champions. Next year’s team also
includes Becca Soderholm and Aja Van Hout, who will be juniors and sophomores,
respectively. With four returning state competitors, this team has the skill
and chemistry to make East Swimming history.
The
girls are also optimistic because new talent is expected to come to the
swimming team, including incoming freshman Chelsea Soderholm, sister of Becca
who was on the state team. Either way, the girls will perform well this
upcoming season with lots of state experience and team chemistry, and
their former senior leadership will be right there rooting them on. Graduating
senior Kirsten Lickel says, “I know the girls have what it takes to come out on
top again,” and she’ll be cheering them on from the warm natatorium bleachers.
Good luck girls!
