Residents of the 4500 block of Golf Road in the Town of Windsor describe their neighborhood as peaceful.

But an incident over the weekend now has residents concerned.

Around 10 Sunday morning, the Dane County Sheriff's Department were called to investigate criminal damage to a vehicle.

They found a truck with a burned interior, smelling of gas and a disturbing acronym sprayed on the outside.

"On one side of the vehicle it appears that the letters kkk were spray painted," says Sheriff's Department Spokesperson Elise Schaeffer.

The call letters of the Ku Klux Klan.

The family that owns the truck is Hmong.

They were out of town at the time of the incident.

Detectives believe the crime may have been racially motivated.

"That is a possibilty that our detectives are looking into, that this family may have been targeted," Schaeffer says.

Sheriff's deputies have been asking neighbors if they saw anything out of the ordinary around 1:00 Sunday morning.

That's the time investigators believe the incident happend.

Neighbors we talked to say they're in shock.

"I can see kids doing their mischievious things, but nothing against a certain person, not like that, spray paint with kkk on a vehicle, no," says neighbor Sharon Walsh.

Especially Victoria Jackson.

Her family lives in the duplex's other unit.

She's worried they could have been the targets.

"I've only been here two weeks and from my understanding i am the only black living in this neighborhood. So i don't know if someone is coming after me, was it intended for me, was it for my family. I don't know," Jackson says.

A member of the Hmong family who owns the vandalized vehicle say they the family was in a Minneapolis suburb when the incident was happening.

She says since moving in in January, the family has had no problems in the neighborhood until now.

Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call the Dane County Sheriff's Department's tip line at 284-6900.
