After a long, harsh winter, things in Madison are finally starting to bloom, which is bad for Melissa Francois.

"I'm allergic to everything that's kind of blossoming right now," she says.

Francois says between the itchy eyes and sneezing, the last two days have been unbearable.

"It's completely annoying and it's hard to get the day started when you're sneezing everytime you're in the shower, out of the shower!" Francois says.

Dr. Don Bukstein is an allergist with Dean Clinic.

He says now that trees are pollinating and the grass is getting greener- allergy season is in full swing.

"It warms up and those trees even south of here start pollinating and the wind blows on those dry days, it can be miserable," Bukstein says.

And after the record setting snow, this allergy season could be more potent than prior years.

"Our trees are very healthy, we've given them a lot of water over the winter months, i think we're going to see a bumper crop of pollen this year," he says.

Dr. Bukstein says with grass pollen in the summer and weed pollen in the fall- all those allergens will start to build making the season even more miserable.

He recommends seeing a doctor or picking up over the counter meds to help battle symptoms.

And the earlier the better.

"Start those medications even before your symptoms start and that will help prevent them," Dr. Bukstein says.

Francois agrees.

She says the last thing she wants to do is wait.

"As soon as they start mowing lawns, flowers start blooming- corn tassels, I'm done!" Francois says.

For people looking for relief right now, Dr. Bukstein suggests keeping your windows closed in the morning and saving outdoor activities for later in the afternoon.
