 Last Thursday night, the Lake Mills girl's volleyball team took on their school rival, Lakeside Lutheran at Lakeside. With the lady L-Cats having an excellent season so far, hopes were high for an L-Cat victory, but the Lakeside Warriors had their own plans for the night. The match ended with an overall Lakeside victory, but the match included four games of extremely well played volleyball from the two teams.
The first game was extremely close throughout the entire match. The score was tied throughout the entire game, while one team was never ahead of the other by more than three points. Lake Mills was off to an extremely good start, especially with the senior, Ashley Ponyicsanyi's spiking. With an excellent team effort, the Lake Mills L-Cats were able to scrape by with a win, with the final score being 25-23.
The second game of the night proved to be less successful for Lake Mills. The game began with Lakeside coming back from the first game extremely strong. The Lady Warriors were hitting the ball extremely hard at the L-Cats, but towards the middle of the game, the L-Cats finally snapped out of the slump, and were able to tie the score up. With the game becoming more evenly matched, Lakeside stepped up, and tuned on their A game. The Warriors defeated Lake Mills with a final score of 25-14.
The Lake Mills L-Cats were determined not to beat themselves up over their loss though. They came back strong towards the beginning of the third game. The third game was played out very much like the first; with the score going back and forth between the two teams. Finally, towards the end of the game, Lakeside was able to pull ahead, and scrape by with a victory of 25-22.
While the third game was very evenly matched, the fourth and final game of the night went spiraling downward for the L-Cats. The Lakeside Warriors were serving the ball extremely hard at the Lake Mills girls, and were able to put up many points against Lake Mills. While the entire game was one-sided towards Lakeside, the L-Cats did not give up without a fight. The final score of the fourth game was 25-14 with a Lakeside Warrior victory. While Lakeside ended up winning the match, they were not able to entirely sweep the L-Cats. Both teams played an extremely well fought match.
