Batter Up!
by Leah Linscheid
Despite the snow and cold temperatures, that time has come again… softball and baseball season. With the weather we’ve been having lately, it’s hard to believe that it’s even spring, let alone time to start spring sports.
The girls, coached by Sarah Hennessey with assistant coaches Gary Pustina and Whitney Wienkes, started practice on March 10. Because of the recent wintry weather, however, they’ve been inside focusing on batting techniques and fielding basics, waiting in anticipation for the snow to melt. Though they’ve been out to shovel the field a few times, the promise of yet another snowfall later in the week threatens to delay any upcoming games.
The boys, starting their practice a week later during Highland’s spring break, hjave also been stuck inside due to the less than exemplary weather conditions. Coach Terri Cool is back for his third year, helped by assistant coach Tom Pierick. Though a scrimmage against Iowa-Grant was already cancelled, their season officially starts off on April 1st against Argyle.
