  LAURIE MERCURIO
Laurie Mercurio

Laurie Mercurio has always been interested in weather; even becoming a broadcast meteorologist occurred to her at an early age. During her sophomore year of high school, she memorized Edgar Allen Poe's "Cask of Amontillado" (in its entirety!) and recited it in front of her English Literature class for extra credit. (which took about 25 minutes!) The English Lit. teacher referred Laurie to the Speech Team coach, and the rest is history...

Laurie Mercurio started as the weekend meteorologist at WMSN and WKOW in May of 2003. She took over as the Chief Meteorologist for Fox 47 in June of 2007. Prior to Madison, Laurie worked at WAOW-TV in Wausau, Wisconsin as the morning meteorologist and KQ2 TV in St. Joseph, Missouri as the weekend meteorologist and weekday reporter.

Laurie is originally from southwestern Illinois, just outside St. Louis. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Meteorology and an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism. She holds the American Meteorological Society's Television Seal of Approval.

Laurie loves spending time with her husband and daughter and enjoys traveling, gardening, playing tennis and baking.

I haven't had anything too embarrassing happen yet, but both of my examples involve cameramen who must have lost track of time during the commercial break and hadn't set the shot.  In one instance, the cameraman had to zoom in on my face to focus. (while on live tv!)  In another, the previous shot must have been wide, because when they came to me, I looked tiny!
