At the 500 block of Doty Street- investigators dove into trash cans.

Searched inside bushes and checked virtually every nook and cranny looking for clues.

But investigations into the murder spanned way past the crime scene-

More than two dozen officers from both Madison and UW police patrolled student housing areas- all the downtown campus areas and even the dorms.

Going door to door.

We have to find information and the way to do that is on foot just making contact with people, says Madison Police Sergeant Dave McCaw.

Outside of Witte hall- many students didn't have many answers- but had a lot of questions.

Many say they're afraid knowing that the person responsible for the brutal murder is still out there.

I'm shocked because I go to school here and walk the streets sometimes by myself so it's a little scary, says student Tony Megna.

Mike Verveer is the alder of the district.

He says he has been pleading with residents in the neighborhood to take extra precaution. Not just at night or when they're away from home.

I'm not trying to cause hysteria or something but in good conscience we have to encourage people to use extra caution because this killer is out there somewhere, Verveer says.

There is a public meeting scheduled on Saturday at 2pm. Police Sergeant McCaw says it's an opportunity for residents to talk with Police about the murder.

Public Meeting:

Capitol Lakes Retirement Community

333 W. Main Street
