FOX47 NEWS - Crash Kills Beaver Dam Teen
Another teenager has died in Beaver Dam - the victim of a car crash.
The crumpled car tells the whole story. 16-year-old Kristin Baade died when the driver lost control, left the road and severed a utility pole. It happened off Shaw Hill Road, near Parker Road in Beaver Dam. The 16-year-old driver was seriously injured, and transported to UW-Hospital in Madison. The Dodge County Sheriff's Department say the driver was speeding and they were not wearing seat belts.
This is the seventh Beaver Dam student to die in two school years. Five were involved in vehicle crashes.
These were instances of testing the limits, getting beyond the point of pressing into reckless driving on country roads that tend to be curvy, hilly, and [have] unstable shoulders, said Beaver Dam Superintendent Donald Childs.
To deal with the tragedies, Beaver Dam schools implement a crisis intervention team which meets immediately, deciding the best ways to serve the families, students, and teachers.
Our staff is a very caring staff and they feel responsible for their students and they feel a strong tie to them. It's very, very hard for them, said Childs.
He says the losses are devastating, but that in his experience Beaver Dam is a resilient city.
Every time I've seen one of these, I've seen this community pull together and gather around the families of the victims, Childs said.
