FOX47 NEWS - WIAA Hoops Underway
For players and their many fans, this is what it's all about -- the WIAA basketball championship games are underway.
To call these fans enthusiastic would be an understatement. With their cheering section coordinated in white and green, Madison Memorial fans packed the Kohl Center Thursday night, chanting and screaming their appreciation for the young men on the court.
The hometown team is two victories away from a coveted state title. Players' family members say they're hungry for it.
It is phenomenal, said Rita Blue, mother of #22 Vander Blue. Vander's excited, I'm excited. I couldn't sleep last night. We're just excited, she said.
The purple knights were well represented, too. Fans trekked 55 miles from Beloit to cheer their team.
We're freshman and it's really cool to experience for the first time, be able to be here and support them in Madison, said Morgan Weberg, Beloit Memorial fan.
Even at the game when we found out we won -- it was like a lot of overwhelming excitement, and cheering, and craziness, said Alexis Hyler, Beloit Memorial fan.
And forget about March madness, they say -- when the Wisconsin high school boys take to the hardwood, fans work themselves into a frenzy.
Fantastic, said Stan Richter, Madison Memorial fan. It's just one of those things you dream about and it's coming true.
