MADISON (WMSN) -- Area cardiologists are working hard to keep their patients out of the hospital.
You heard it right.
More of their patients are given house calls, through the "Heart Failure Program" at St. Mary's in Madison.
75-year-old Bill Sanford is living with congestive heart failure.
He credits the house calls to saving his life.
After four unexpected trips to the hospital this past year, he's been keeping in touch to get better.
"On this program, one of the requirements is that I record my weight everyday on the digital scale. If I exceed 3 pounds in a day, I have to call them and tell them what to do," said patient Bill Sanford.
Bill hasn't had any major health problems since enrolling in March.
The hospital has served more than 1,000 patients in the past four years.
Right now, they have more than 450 taking part.
