MADISON (WMSN) -- A new "green" hospital is under construction in Edgerton.
Leaders there hope the facility not only has a technology edge, but bring in more specialties, which may include cancer care.
Janesville native Bob Mansur says it's taken nearly a year to get him where he is today.
"I had an automobile accident last July 8th," said Bob Mansur, Edgerton Hospital patient.
After having a hip replacement in Madison, he went to physical therapy in Edgerton.
"It was great to be closer to home. It's great for the whole area and obviously the hospital is needed," said Mansur.
Edgerton Hospital partnered with St. Mary's Hospital to move to a new location - right off of Highway 59.
One of Edgerton Hospital's goals is to be a green facility. Its the first critical access hospital in the country to have geothermal heating and cooling.
"We're basically taking the ground temperature of 50 degrees and we're gunna heat it up or cool it down and use that as heating or air conditioning," said Facilities Manager Tom Freeeman.
"We're going to look at some solar opportunities and even further lower our carbon footprint," said Freeman.
Also under construction - a rehabilitation facility to help more patients like Bob.
"We have a therapy outpatient gym and a very nice inpatient gym," said Freeman.
More jobs could be added. No word yet how many.
"There's new opportunities with those specialties that could bring more nursing support or lab personnel," said Freeman.
Other specialties could also be added down the line.
"Cancer treatments, we may have the opportunity to do some chemotherapy," said Freeman.
An open house is planned for September 25th.
They will also have a run-walk event that day to fundraise the construction project.
The hospital hopes to raise $1.5 million to help complete the project.
