JANESVILLE (WMSN) -- It's just what the doctor ordered for struggling Janesville.
St. Mary's is opening a state-of-the-art hospital next year, bringing hundreds of jobs with it.
As hospital leaders put on the finishing touches before the grand opening in January, the recruitment team is sifting through nearly 6,000 online applications to fill 350 jobs.
"We always did a good job to stay ahead of it," said Eric Thornton, Director of Human Resources.
They're receiving about 100 applications each day.
These jobs are a much needed boost for an area hit hard.
Among the jobs added, 80 new nursing positions.
"All of our departments are still hiring so we expect to do that through October," said Thornton.
Leaders at St. Mary's have only filled about 1/3 of the new positions available.
"Infectious disease, case management, ultra sound," said Thornton of the available positions.
The new hospital will include surgery, cardiology and E.R. services.
Brent Sutherland was just hired as the director of operations, providing building maintenance.
He says these hundreds of new jobs bring hope to the area.
"You've not only created the jobs but a lot of supporting jobs. It's going to have a big impact," said Sutherland.
