JANESVILLE (WMSN) -- For every working mom - it can be hard to balance everything on your plate.

A Janesville hospital won an award from the National Association for Female Executives for being one of 50 companies in the advancement of women.

"I find it to be an amazing opportunity you truly get to be an advocate for that patient," said Robin Moses-Otterstein, perioperative nurse.

"For many people they would know it as operating room nursing," said Robin.

Her love of nursing started at this hospital a dozen years ago.

"I had a bachelor's degree, through tuition reimbursement and flexible scheduling I was able to get my master's degree," said Robin.

This Fall - she's going on for her doctorate in nursing administration.

"I would have been hesitant in going on if they wouldn't have helped us continue with our degrees," said Robin.

"We have 100 leaders which includes managers, directors and vice president's - over half are women," said Barb Bortner, VP of marketing and PR.

"We were very excited to submit the award," said Bortner.

Barb Bortner says it wasn't just the sheer number of women at the hospital that gave them an edge. Flexible hours and schedules also helped them win an award.

"They each work part time and they share the one job and they work out between the two of them when they can work and who works when," said Bortner.

"For me, personally I have four kids so being allowed time off and time to go in the middle of the day to go to an event at their school is a treasured time," said Bortner.

Lastly - is the career ladder program. Something Ruth Yarbrough says kept her with the hospital for 30 years. She started in the hospital's lab. Today she's vice president.

"You really can progress and have all kids of new jobs learn new things have new opportunities without leaving the organization," said Ruth Yarbrough.

For Robin, she says without it, she wouldn't be where she is today.

"For them to be continuing these programs has been so helpful," said Robin.

Other recipients for the top 50 companies for executive women included American Express, IBM and Procter & Gamble.
