MADISON (WMSN) -- It can be downright stressful when you take your family to the Emergency Room.
A new study shows if you're heading to a Madison ER like St. Mary's you're in luck.
The city ranks second in the nation for the best experience.
"I've got 4 kids so we're there if not every week every other week with an illness or injury," said Madison mom Michelle Chadwick.
Michelle says one of the most terrifying moments just happened last month, where her 7-year-old son Epi suffered his first seizure.
"He was riding his bike and fell at that time I didn't know it was a seizure until we got to the hospital," said Chadwick.
She took her son to St. Mary's ER in Madison.
Dr. Kyle Martin says a major focus these past few years is lowering the wait.
"From the moment you hit the door to getting in a back room and in front of the doctor as soon as possible. Our average wait time is 14 minutes," said Dr. Kyle Martin, Director of St. Mary's Emergency Services.
He says another reason why Madison took the number two spot for satisfaction is that their focus is on the patient connection, which can be hard to do with a doctor you've only just met.
"It might be that they're discounting something that could potentially be life threatening so that's a common mantra that everything is an emergency," said Dr. Martin.
Something that can be a difficult juggle, as St. Mary's Hospital cared for about 36,000 ER patients last year, and that number is expected to go up.
"I like never knowing what's gunna happen one minute to the next and really making a difference in somebody's life," said Dr. Martin.
For Michelle, she says her son is now getting his condition treated, thanks to quick thinking doctors.
"Something worse could have happened," said Chadwick.
The top city from the study conducted by Press Ganey was Wichita, Kansas.
More than 1.6 million patients were surveyed at more than 1,900 hospitals.
