MADISON (WMSN) -- The UW MadHatters are a staple on campus. The acapella group touches the hearts of people with their voices.

The 17 member group are now using their voices to help find a cure to multiple sclerosis.

Two members of the University of Wisconsin MadHatters, Drew Lake and Mark Dennison didn't realize they had more than music in common, as they spoke backstage.

"I had mentioned my Dad being diagnosed with MS," said Drew Lake, member of the UW MadHatters.

"And I was like no way! My Dad has MS too that's crazy," said Mark Dennison, member of the UW MadHatters.

"My Dad started showing signs of MS when I was about 6-years-old. He can't really feel his fingers or toes anymore, at least as much as he used to as a carpenter that's tough," said Lake.

Mark remembers his father being diagnosed in 2004.

"He ran three Chicago Marathons, now he can barely do 30 minutes of exercise," said Dennison.

"MS attacks your central nervous system it prevents your brain from sending messages to the body," said Becky Hall, UW Sophomore and creator of Going For Ten Thousand.

Becky Hall joined the effort to help raise money for The Wisconsin Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society through her organization called Going For Ten Thousand. The group is donating part of the proceeds from music sales at their Concert Saturday to the fight against MS.

"I guess it really shows the difference young people can make," said Hall.

Here's how you can help:

The MadHatters are donating a portion of the proceeds from music sales and you can check them out this weekend.

Their spring concert is Saturday night at 8 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre.
