Hours after her delivery, St. Mary's Hospital staff in Madison had a surprise.
"We were getting ready to feed her, when all of a sudden they came in and said the Mallards people want to interview you and give you tickets to the game. I was like... okay," said Crystal Hartwick.
Maynard Mallard, the Madison baseball team's mascot, gave every baby born Wednesday free season tickets for life.
Ironically enough, Phoebe's parents, Crystal and Brian Hartwick, of Lake Mills, are huge baseball fans.
"My husband and I travel at least once every year to different major league ballparks," Crystal said.
"It's fate because we love baseball and the Mallards were nice enough to give her season tickets for life," Brian said.
Mallards personnel say it's a great way to celebrate opening day.
"We feel like we can never have enough Mallards fans. One way to get people started is right from the beginning. From the day they are born, they have a chance to come out with free season tickets for life," said Mike Then, Mallards assistant manager of marketing.
As for little Phoebe, her parents say she'll be visiting the Duck Pond in Warner Park next month.
"It's so great," Brain said. "We're hoping she turns out to be a baseball fan."
