Summit park in Beloit looks like a great place to play. However, it's the sound of gunshots that have neighbors ready to move out.

"We are pretty much prisoners over here. You can't let the kids go and enjoy what was meant for them to enjoy," said a local Beloit resident who asked to remain anonymous.

One person is dead and three others were injured in a shooting Saturday night at a Beloit park, Beloit police officials said.

"Unfortunately, it didn’t really surprise us. We have actually done drills. My children and I practice drills, if we hear gunshots or anything that sounds like it everyone gets down on the floor," The mother said.

The Beloit mother of two lives right across the street from where the shooting happened.

When police got to the scene, they reported seeing a large crowd trying to get out of the area, officials said.

Officers found two men at the park who had been shot, officials said. Both men were transported to Mercy hospital in Janesville, and a third person who was injured during the incident was transported to Beloit Memorial Hospital for treatment.

One of the men shot died, but the other man who was shot is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The third person was treated and released Sunday around 11:20 p.m.  A woman, a fourth victim, arrived at Beloit Memorial Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound that police believe happened during the incident.

Beloit Police Captain, Dan Risse, said this is not the first shooting to happen at the park.

"Certainly we are well aware that summit play park has consistent large activity in the evenings. Officers do make routine patrols through that, unfortunately there's other things going on and at the time this incident occurred we weren't there," said Captain Risse.

As long as the shootings continue, the Beloit mother said she will continue to practice drills with her children.

"If you want to be safe you better have some type of routine. I tell my children bullets do not have eyes. A lot of these kids that are out here shooting, are just shooting. Anyone can get hit," she said.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Beloit police department at 608-364-6801 or the Beloit area crime stoppers at 608-362-7463.
