MADISON, Wis. - A former Wisconsin Department of Justice supervisor fired for allowing dozens of child pornography cases to languish has reached a settlement with the state.

DOJ officials fired Special Agent-in-Charge Willie Brantley in March. Brantley appealed the termination to the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission, alleging DOJ fired him in part because he's black and agency officials were well aware of a backlog in child pornography cases and lacked a timeline for handling them.

Brantley reached a deal with DOJ on Wednesday to settle the case. The terms call for the state to pay Brantley $7,500 to cover his attorney fees and change his termination to a retirement. It also calls for Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen to apologize to Brantley for referring to him as a "rogue agent" in media interviews.
