MINNEAPOLIS - Just when it seemed like spring was here, an April snowstorm has dumped more than a foot of snow on parts of Minnesota.

The National Weather Service reports 19 inches of snow in Isanti, nearly 15 inches of snow in Milaca, 14 inches in St. Francis and over 10 inches in Pine City.

Weather service meteorologist Lisa Schmit says the snow seemed to split Hennepin County, with the northern part getting almost a foot of snow and the south only a trace.

The heavy snow stretches in a band from central Minnesota into northwestern Wisconsin. The weather service reports 13.5 inches near Grantsburg, Wis., almost 11 inches in Spooner, Wis., and 10 inches near Hayward, Wis. It was still snowing Wednesday night.

Ashland and Bayfield schools are closed in Wisconsin. Other districts, including Cloquet and Carlton schools in Minnesota, have delayed their start by two hours. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says roads throughout the northern region of the state are snow covered.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reports difficult driving conditions from Cook County southwest to Lincoln County.

The snow shouldn't last long. Highs may hit 60 in southwestern Minnesota by Saturday.
