MADISON, Wis. - In Madison, city streets workers will have to reseal an unusually high number of water main break sites this spring.
The extreme cold caused more than 350 water main breaks, and the repair process leaves patched, bumpy roadways.
Now that the weather is warmer, workers will return to each site to remove the temporary seals and replace them with permanent asphalt.
The process will likely last through the fall.
“It doesn’t really have an end. It’s just a big cycle. It’s going to be months before we can repair all of those holes, but we do go around and make sure they’re all filled and safe for cars to drive over,” Madison Water Utility Public Information Officer Amy Barrilleaux said.
MWU has four crews out prepping the water main break areas. The resealing process should begin in May.
