MILWAUKEE - Jurorsstarted deliberations in the case of a man who claims he was illegally strip-searched by three Milwaukee police officers.

Forty-year-old Leo Hardy of Milwaukee says he was illegally searched in March 2012 by Officer Michael Gasser.

Now, the jury must decide whether the officers had reasonable suspicion to search Hardy. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that if the jurors find there was reasonable suspicion, then they must weigh whether the searches were conducted properly.

U.S. District Judge J.P. Stadtmueller told jurors if they believe Gasser smelled marijuana on Hardy, then the search was justified.

There was no mention of marijuana in police reports. Hardy has denied he had marijuana, and none was found.

More than 60 people have sued the city and police department over similar searches.
