MONROE, Wis. - Firefighters from more than a dozen departments battled a blaze inside the ethanol plant in Monroe early Tuesday.

Monroe police chief Fred Kelley said the first fire unit on the scene reported seeing flames coming from seams in the roof duct piping.

Kelley said corn dust inside the ducts of the plant caught fire, making the fire very labor intensive to fight.

Kelley said the plant was not in production at the time, and the facility still will be able to receive corn and ship ethanol once the blaze is put out.

No one has been injured battling the blaze, and all the extra firefighters brought in via mutual aid have been sent home.

Kelley expects Monroe firefighters to be on the scene most of the morning as they continue to clean out the duct work of the plant.
