MADISON, Wis. -Madison police are putting a safety plan in place ahead of Saturday’s Final Four game.

Last week thousands of students rushed State Street to celebrate the Badgers’ 64-63 overtime win against Arizona.

There were 50 officers on hand, but they didn’t make any arrests, and there weren’t any injuries.

This Saturday, in addition to city, Capitol and University of Wisconsin officers and mounted patrol will be on hand.

Officials also plan to set up a command center and use surveillance cameras to keep everyone safe.

“I think if we take a look at this team and the character of this team, I don’t think there are any of us Badgers fans that are going to disrespect them or embarrass them. I don’t think Badgers fans want to embarrass this university, this city or state,” Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain said.

DeSpain said the officers are accustomed to large crowds and cited the Halloween event Freak Fest when up to 50,000 people have filled the streets.
