Malaysia Airlines said it has lost contact with one of its airplances carrying 239 people.
The airliner went off the grid two hours after it took off from Kuala Lumpur. It was heading to Beijing, China.

Reuters reported radar contact was lost over Vietnam's airspace.

The Boeing 777-200 aircraft was carrying 227 passengers, including 2 infants and 12 crew members. The passengers were of 13 different nationalities.

Malaysia Airlines VP of Operations told CNN the missing plane had enough fuel to fly for 7 hours, and it should have run out by 6:30 Madison time.

The company and authorities have activated a search and rescue team to locate the aircraft. They are also notifying next of kin.

The company's CEO released a statement saying in part, "We deeply regret that we have lost contacts with flight MH370 which departed Kuala Lumpur earlier this morning bound for Beijing."

Boeing tweeted, "We're closely monitoring reports on Malaysia flight MH370. Our thoughts are with everyone on board."

Malaysia Airlines said it is providing regular updates on the situation.
