MADISON, Wis. - Officials said a Waunakee man was flown by helicopter to the hospital after he was rear-ended Sunday in Springfield.

According to the report, 43-year-old Vaewpheth Seignarack was stopped at a red light in the eastbound lanes of Highway 12 at the controlled intersection Highway P. After the light turned green, Seignarack accelerated his 2010 Honda Accord.

Officials said 26-year-old Praneeth Palety, of Madison, was also eastbound on Highway 12 in his 2001 Nissan Maxima but failed to notice Seignarack’s slowly accelerating vehicle and struck him from behind at highway speeds.

Seignarack sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by Med Flight to the UW Hospital, the sheriff's office said. Palety was taken by ambulance to the UW Hospital with minor injuries.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, which attributed to reducing the injuries in this crash, according to the report.

The sheriff's office said Palety was cited on suspicion of inattentive driving and non-registration of his vehicle.
