JANESVILLE, Wis. - The
Evansville, Wis., man accused of burning the body of a missing Fitchburg teen
in his backyard fire pit pleaded guilty to two charges.
Nathan C. Middleton,
29, entered guilty pleas Thursday to the charges of hiding and mutilating a
corpse, according to online court records
Prosecutors said Middleton met 18-year-old Aprina Paul in October through a Craigslist ad.
The criminal complaint
said Middleton told investigators the two did drugs and had sex on
Oct. 27. He said he found her dead body the next morning. Middleton told police
he burned her body in a fire pit at his home on Highway 14 Oct. 18.
Charges related to an
alleged plot by Middleton to escape the Rock County Jail were dropped as part
of the plea deal, according to a Janesville Gazette report.
Paul's remains were
discovered in the fire pit and were sent for testing last November, but
sheriff's officials said Friday that it had not received results yet.
A sentencing hearing
is scheduled for May 21 at 2:30 p.m.
