There were already 28 motorcycle
fatalities in Wisconsin this year. With more commuters expected for the 4th of
July, transportation officials are warning drivers to use extra caution.
With more than 500,000 bikers in Wisconsin
odds are you'll share the road with one or two this weekend. While the past
five years only saw three motorcycle deaths during the 4th of July weekend, the
DOT said that's too many.
"Motorcylists themselves need to
make themselves more conspicuous in traffic, when there is more traffic lane
position is part of that so they can see and be seen in traffic,” said Greg Patzer,
Manager of DOT Wisconsin Motorcyle Safety Program.
The DOT said 35 percent of motorcycle
driver deaths occur because bikers aren't properly licensed.
There are about 50 motorcycle training
sites in Wisconsin that offer instruction and certification.
