MADISON, Wis. -Rock County officials say they will no longer be withholding names of drunk drivers after they reviewed a new policy that was put in place at the end of March.
Officials had told news media they wouldn’t be releasing names of people involved in arrests or crashes because of the federal Driver Privacy Protection Act and a 2012 court decision from Illinois that says police shouldn’t put identifying information on parking tickets.
Rock County started redacting arrest and crash records, but will start reporting names of people involved again following a ruling in St. Croix County.
Rock County Sheriff Bob Spoden said the original decision to withhold names was because of concerns of possibly being sued by those whose names are released.
