MADISON, Wis. - The
Friends of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries will be holding its
annual book sale this week.
The sale, featuring
more than 15,000 books, is the largest used book sale in Wisconsin, according
to a release.
Items featured in the
sale include collections of American political biographies, archaeology, film
studies, mathematics, Russian language and culture, current fiction, primate
studies and philosophy, organizers said. Other areas include children’s books,
American studies, world languages, music, cooking, physical and biological
sciences, computer science, political science, law, education, travel,
self-help, reference business, religion and engineering. There will also be
maps, DVDs, CDs and LPs.
Books are donated by
UW faculty, staff and students, as well as many Madison-area residents,
according to the release. The sale helps fund special purchases for the
libraries’ collections, book conservation and preservation, grants for visiting
scholars, a Friends annual lecture series and other special events open to the
The sale is open to
the public and held in room 116 in Memorial Library at 728 State St. A preview
sale with a $5 entry fee will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. The regular sale will
be held on Thursday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday, shoppers
can fill up a grocery-sized bag for $4 a bag from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on
Sunday from 1:05-2 p.m. all remaining books are free.
