MADISON, Wis. - Madison and Fitchburg police are reminding residents to report suspicious activity after a string of burglaries was reported on the west side Tuesday night.
Police are investigating four similar west side residential burglary calls that were reported between 8 and 11 p.m. Tuesday night, according to a release.
The first call came in shortly after 8 p.m. at a home in the 6200 block of Pioneer Road after a resident heard a bang at the back of his home, police said. The resident found a back door shattered, but he believes he scared the burglar off.
Another call came in a short time later of an attempted burglary in the 5200 block of Meadowood Drive, according to the release. The resident told police someone tried to enter a home through a window, but the resident was inside, and the burglar fled.
The third burglary was reported around 10 p.m. when a couple returned to their home in the 2200 block of Whitney Way, police said. The couple found a rear door kicked in, and cash, electronics and jewelry were taken.
Around 11 p.m. another burglar was reported in the 5900 block of Riva Road when residents returned to their home and found it had been burglarized, according to the release. The burglars gained entry into the home through a back door.
Officials said this is the second cluster of burglaries in the same general area in the past few weeks, and they remind residents to remain vigilant in reporting anything that might help police solve the crimes.
“We’re really appealing to the public to be very vigilant right now, particularly in that Raymond Road corridor,” Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain said. “Be on the lookout for people who are suspicious. Call police right away if you see someone lurking around a neighbor’s house.”
