BELOIT, Wis. -A tactical standoff between men at a Beloit home has ended with men in the residence being detained, police said.
According to Beloit police Capt. William Tyler, there was a report of an attempted armed robbery in the 900 block of 10th Street before 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Beloit police Capt. Dan Risse said a male was found suffering a head wound. The man had been pistol whipped following an argument earlier.
Police searched for a suspect until about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, when officers centered their search at a house on the 1900 block of McKinley.
Tyler said police tried to make an arrest but the suspect, who was armed, refused to come out. Police negotiators and a tactical team were called to the scene at about 6 a.m. At 7:30 a.m. the men inside surrendered and were detained, Risse said.
Beloit police are familiar with the men in custody but did not release any names Wednesday morning. The men were detained in connection with the armed robbery.
Risse said police are still working to positively identify the men and charge them. The investigation continued Wednesday morning.
There were two women and a child in the home at the time.
Risse said the incident stemmed from an argument between a man and three women Tuesday night.
Police had blocked off McKinley Street on the city's west side between Burton and Newark due to the situation. At 8:51 a.m., police said McKinley Street was reopened.
