By July officials hope the new northbound lanes will be completed and all traffic will be shifted there to allow construction of new southbound lanes. All work on the stretch of Verona Road between the Beltline and Raymond Road is expected to be completed by November 2014.
It is estimated that 65,000 vehicles use Verona Road each day. Providing access during construction is one of the challenges.
"Maintaining traffic is one large challenge in this project, also tight constraints. There’s not very much room outside of the right-of-way to stage construction so that is one of the other major challenges," said Chris Fredrick, project manager for the Verona Road project.
Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials encourage drivers to look for alternate routes that would allow them to avoid the construction area. They are going to maintain access to all businesses in the area, however.
With all of the changes that will be coming in the months and years to come, drivers are encouraged to stay informed through information online.
"Patience will be helpful. We are encouraging the public to stay informed. We want people to go to our project website at VeronaRoadProject.wi.gov and sign up for weekly updates,” Fredrick said.Thursday, February 20 2014, 10:05 PM CST
