The Wisconsin Realtors Association has thrown its considerable weight behind the governor.
Some members are upset. They believe the WRA will ultimately give their money too.
The WRA’s Board of Directors voted last week to give a thumbs up to Governor Walker, in the event his name lands on a recall ballot.
But members Fox 47 spoke with questions how he could be fairly evaluated for endorsement when his ultimate challenger remains unknown.
Others aren’t happy over the group granting any endorsement at all.
“One is left with the thought that they decided to open up the money spigots early on, especially to get as much money into the campaign, before the actual date of the election is announced," said Barry Mirkin who heads the Condo Shoppe.
Paying dues to WRA gives realtors access to the multiple listing service, but now $70 of their dues automatically go to the off-shoot Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance, which tax records show gave money in 2010 to the Wisconsin Club for Growth and other conservative groups.
As for the early endorsement, the association’s president and CEO had this tos ay:
"I think we make our decisions based on real estate related issues, we always have and Governor Walker has a stellar history with us," said Mike Theo in a phone interview.
Theo says in a “normal” election process they might wait.
The realtors association has more than 13,000 members across the state. $70 of their dues go to the Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance which does those lobbying activities.
That adds up to about a million dollars a year.
