BELOIT, Wis. - A Beloit woman was arrested Saturday night after leading police on a short vehicle chase and then fleeing on foot, leaving her two children in the vehicle, Rock County officials said.
Just before 9:30 p.m. a Rock County sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a 2000 Ford Winstar near Henry and Park avenues because the registered owner, Amanda K. McKinney, 26, of Beloit, had an active felony probation warrant, according to a release.
As the deputy exited his squad car and approached the vehicle, McKinney drove away eastbound on Henry Avenue, officials said. The deputy pursued the vehicle about six-tenths of a mile until the car stopped on Mound Avenue, where McKinney and a man fled on foot.
The deputy found another man who chose to stay with the vehicle and McKinney’s 4- and 5-year-old boys, according to the release.
Authorities set up a perimeter or the area and tracked two sets of footprints in the snow, officials said. Deputies eventually found McKinney, in the 1900 block of Church Street. The man who also fled was not immediately found or identified.
McKinney was booked into the Rock County Jail on the felony probation warrant and also faces tentative charges of fleeing and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also cited for operating a motor vehicle after revocation, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.
McKinney’s children were turned over to their grandfather and Rock County Child Protective Services is investigating, officials said. The man who stayed in the vehicle with the children was not charged in the incident.
