MADISON, Wis. - A 14-year-old girl’s hair was set on fire during a lunch period at Jefferson Middle School in Madison on Monday.

Witnesses told Madison police a 14-year-old boy walked up behind the girl as she was seated in the cafeteria and used a lighter to ignite her ponytail. The boy then patted the flames out and left the area, according to witnesses.

The girl was not injured, but was not initially aware of what had happened, according to police.

The boy was taken to the Juvenile Reception Center on suspicion of second-degree reckless endangerment.
