MADISON, Wis. - A 16-year-old is on trial this week for a brutal sexual assault on Winnebago Street in the summer of 2013.
Adore Thomas, of Madison, faces five felony counts as an adult, including three counts of first-degree sexual assault with the user of a dangerous weapon, aggravated battery and strangulation.
The victim testified in court Tuesday.
"I was afraid that I was feeling so faint I was going to pass out, and I thought I was going to die or be sexually assaulted," she said.
A criminal complaint said a woman was running and was approached by Thomas when he grabbed her from behind and slammed her to the ground. She tried to use her pepper spray to stop him, but it didn’t work.
A police officer testified about the woman’s injuries at a previous hearing.
“She appeared to be in shock. She had a stunned look on her face; she appeared bloody, bruised, cut up. There was swelling around her eyes, so swollen that she almost couldn’t see out of them,” Madison police officer Nathan Becker said.
When detectives showed photos of the woman to Thomas, a criminal complaint said he was surprised and asked, “I did that?”
Jury selection was completed Monday, and the trial continues the rest of the week.
