MADISON, Wis. -Gov. Scott Walker's proposed mergers of four state agencies into two would take effect next year.

Walker's spokeswoman Laurel Patrick released that additional detail Wednesday. Many more details, including how many jobs would be affected by the mergers, remains to be seen.

Walker proposed in his State of the State speech Tuesday that the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation be merged with the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority.

He is also calling for merging the Department of Financial Institutions with the Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Patrick says the mergers will be less complicated than in 2011 when the semi-private WEDC was created to replace the Department of Commerce.

There would be about six months more time to complete the mergers than there was to create WEDC.
