MADISON, Wis. - A man known to his friends as Buckets was the last person to see 80-year-old Allen Brown, who was last seen Jan. 7.
Buckets has been friends with Brown since the 1960s.
"I got to know him down in Illinois. We went to the same church, went fishing together," Buckets said.
Last Wednesday they had lunch together in Monticello, it was the last time anyone would see Brown before he went missing.
"I thought maybe he broke down or drove into a ditch or something like that. That’s why I went looking for him and of course I didn't find anything," he said.
Buckets and other community members have been handing out flyers since Brown’s disappearance. There have been over a dozen unconfirmed sightings from Ripon to Chicago of the 80-year Milton man, but police still have not been able to locate him.
"We are very concerned, the family is very concerned that he is going to tire out. Maybe that will be a good thing that he will finally go to someone and ask for help," Milton Police Chief Dan Layber said.
Layber said they received tips reporting sightings of Brown on Sunday in Montello, Oxford, Madison, Mount Horeb, Cottage Grove and Eau Claire, but none of them were confirmed sightings. People also reported seeing Brown on Monday in Ripon, Janesville and Chicago.
Brown has been entered into police databases everywhere in the U.S., Layber said.
Layber said police are actively looking for Brown in the areas of the reported sightings, but the reports are typically coming in hours or days after the reported sightings. Layber said because of the specific model of his car, there is no way to track his vehicle’s location. Police have also tried to contact Brown on his cellphone, but they believe his battery is dead.
A Silver Alert was issued Friday for Brown, who was believed to be heading back to Milton Wednesday. Police said they also believe there’s a possibility he’s heading to Canada.
On Monday, police asked residents in Sun Prairie and Tomah to be on the lookout for him, as well as residents in northern Wisconsin along the Interstate 94 corridor and northern Minnesota.
He was driving a white 2013 Ford Explorer with Wisconsin license plate 60YRS, police said. Brown is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 173 pounds, is bald and has blue eyes. He was wearing a buckskin jacket, a blue knit hat and dark tan pants.
Layber said none of Brown’s credit cards have been used recently.
Officials ask anyone with information on Brown’s whereabouts to call 608-868-6910 or 608-757-2244.
