BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit police said three people were found shot on the east side of Beloit Monday afternoon.
Beloit police heard shots from a couple blocks away from the intersection of Randall Street and Porter Avenue just before 2 p.m. One of the victims ran away from officers, but he was found in the 1200 block of Copeland Avenue.
Police said the three victims have been transported to area hospitals. Police have not identified the victims or released their conditions.
While responding, officers had to call crowd control to preserve the scene.
"The scene here on Randall and Porter can't be any more secure," Beloit Police Capt. Dan Risse said.
Police said with an elementary school just a block or two away, the incident could have been much worse.
"As you can see over my shoulder there's Merrill School, but the kids are out for the holiday, so we're fortunate that way," Risse said.
Officials said no one is in custody, but there is no reason to believe the shooting was random or that the public is in danger.
The first officer that got to the scene was bitten in the leg by a dog while he trying to help the shooting victims, according to a release. He is being treated at Beloit Memorial Hospital.
