A Milwaukee state senator will introduce a bill Wednesday aiming to ban a new type of powdered alcohol, known as palcohol, before it is scheduled to go on sale for the first time this spring.
Sen. Tim Carpenter, D-Milwaukee, says in a state with an already bad alcohol problem he is especially concerned about minors having another alcohol option.
“I just think it takes it a little step further. We already have all this alcohol out there. But still we don't need to give them another spin of the Russian roulette,” Carpenter said.
But the powered alcohol inventor Marc Phillips calls lawmakers like Carpenter ignorant in their prohibition process. So much so he created a YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYP085QJvtk) to tell what he calls the truth about palcohol.
“Palcohol is just like liquid alcohol,” Phillips says in the video. “It will be sold in the same licensed establishment where alcohol is currently sold. Where adults 21 years and older can buy it.”
Phillips says concerns about snorting the powder are illogical since it would take a very painful hour to snort the ounce it would take to consume all the alcohol.
Palcohol was invented to help outdoors enthusiast avoid having to lug heavy alcohol bottles after their hike or bike ride.
Phillips did not return a request for comment.
