MADISON, Wis. - James Kruger, who went on a three-county crime spree 17 months ago, was found not competent to stand trial by a Grant County judge.

Kruger, 37, had an evidentiary hearing in front of Judge Robert Van De Hey in Lancaster Friday morning. At the hearing, Dr. Dean Knutson said Kruger was not competent to stand trial right now, but could be competent if his medications were changed.

The judge ordered a 90-day delay in the case. Another hearing will be scheduled in the case in April.

Kruger is accused of stealing guns and money and taking a hostage while driving a stolen vehicle in fall 2013. He currently faces charges in Dane, Grant and Iowa counties.Man accused in 3-county crime spree found not competent
