MADISON (WMSN) -- Many families with members serving in the armed forces say they have much to be thankful for this year.

Thousands of Wisconsin soldiers are currently serving overseas, and many, just returned home in time for the holidays.

Major Matt Eakins, an Evansville dad and husband, is home for Thanksgiving from his deployment as a flight commander in Baghdad.

Sheri Eakins, Matt's wife, says, "There's always that thing in the back of your mind, you don't really get your hopes up that much until you actually see them come home.. so we're excited and fortunate."

Janell Kellett's husband, Major Michael Hanson is serving with the 32nd Infantry Brigade in Baghdad.

She says, "Kids miss him around the holidays. It gets hard for our soldiers away from their families, but they do have each other overseas, so that helps."

Janell and kids say they're thankful for Skype. "When we get to talk to him, on Skype, the kids enjoy seeing him, getting to see them makes him happy, then they're happy.. it's really good."
