MADISON (WMSN) -- Most of Dane County measured between 14 and 18.5 inches of snow in the major snowstorm, now the area is bracing for bitter cold temperatures.

Dane County pulled plow trucks at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night so drivers could rest. They will be heading back out at 3:00 a.m. Most municipalities are hoping to have most streets cleared in time for the Thursday commute.

Once cleared, the cold temps made many of the clear streets ice covered and slippery. The high temperature forecast for Thursday is 7 degrees.

The major winter storm that hit Southern Wisconsin hit central Dane County the hardest, and lands at #6 in the record books for 2-day snow totals.

According to the National Weather Service, most areas in central Dane County received between 15 and 18 inches of snow Wednesday and Thursday. Oregon recorded the largest snowfall total at 18.5 inches.

The "official" snowfall measurement, however, is done at the Dane County Regional Airport, where they reported 14.1 inches of snow over the 2-day snow event.

That measurement lands this snowstorm at #6 in Madison, since the National Weather Service started keeping records in 1948.
